I believe it was during 2006 that I bought my first canvas. I can remember the feeling I felt the first time I sat down in front of an old easel I bought from a local thrift store, and placed the white canvas on it. The feeling of freedom to create anything I wanted excited me! You see, I wasn’t a painter. I never took an art class nor did I watch any videos. I simply felt the desire to express myself through the paint brush that I clutched tightly in my hand. Soon, my mind went blank, my grip loosened and off I went!!
It’s been a little over a year since I last painted. Something I still feel a longing to do and I have no plans on giving up on it. I guess you can say that I am writing this blog post to reignite my artistic flame! Even though, technically, it never really went out.
Most paintings I created, I gave away. I loved seeing how someone would see one of my paintings and smile, or say, “I’d love for you to paint me one just like this!” My response was always, “This one is for you then.” When a person connects to piece of art, it can transform them. Maybe not in the same way it transforms me or someone else, but that’s okay. Everyone views art differently; through their own unique lens. One may not understand what their eyes are seeing, but when you can find the beauty in a piece, without the need to understand, well…then to me, that’s art.
Art is what you make it.
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog post!
